Less than a decade ago, rheumatoid arthritis sapped Maxine’s active lifestyle. The joint swelling was so painful that she spent her days in a wheelchair staring out the window. Unable to work and losing her zest for living, Maxine moved to Boulder to seek medical treatment close to her son and daughter-in-law. Even in her darkest hours of pain, she had hope and faith for recovery. In addition to finding the right medical treatment, Maxine also found Special Transit. Having transportation to get to her frequent medical appointments was just as important as the healthcare itself. Today, Maxine’s arthritis is in remission. No longer in a wheelchair, or in pain, Maxine’s quality of life is back…and Special Transit is still with her every step of the way. She’s a regular rider – going to church and the grocery store, singing at the Senior Center and leading discussion groups, and only occasional medical appointments. Her resilience inspires others. Make a gift to support the invaluable mobility services Special Transit provides so Maxine and thousands of others can remain independent and fully engaged in the community. Donate Now
